Chocolate and Roses Blog Hop

Howdy Folks!

Thanks for participating in this awesome blog hop. The winner will walk away with 10 strandbucks!

I normally associate chocolate and roses with Valentine's day. And, I'll never forget my first one as a married woman.

I married my high school sweetheart, and our first Valentine's was rough. I was in the hospital, and our son was only a few days old. Jeremy, my sweet hubby, had been run ragged between work and trying to take care of me completely on his own. (Yes, my family was there, but he felt that he needed to be the one doing every little thing.)

I found out I was getting released, but our son wasn't since he threw up formula they were insisting on giving him despite the fact I was trying to breast feed. I was in tears, sitting outside the nursery since they wouldn't let me have him for a while. He came running in, still in his work clothes, with a bouquet of every imaginable color roses plus other flowers like daisies and mums and many more in just as many vibrant hues. He also had a heart shaped box of dark chocolate.

He dropped them next to me and pulled me close to him and hugged me. The flowers and chocolates laid on the floor, but he kissed and held me close to sooth my irrational bawling over not being able to hold my baby boy even though I could see him asleep on the other side of the glass.

I know we've all done something to ruin a sweet moment, so I'd like to hear all y'all's.

Leave me a message about your silliest, funniest, goofiest, sweetest, or whatever moment with either a sweetie or a great friend.

  1. That is such a sweet story.
Don't worry, even with your crying it still sounds like it was really romantic!

  2. Best recent chocolate moment was when my girlfriends surprised me in France (from Australia!!!) for a big birthday. Have a picture with them outside the Cluny chocolate shop, all trying to be Juliette and no Johnny Depp in sight (alla the film Chocolat)!

  4. Love your story, Rose. I have a thing about watching flowers die. My husband and daughter brought home a frascati bush one year for birthday. My little one was SO proud. Every time I smelled the blooms, it brought back that day. Rita Bay

    1. I always get misty eyed when my flowers die. My young man has a thing about snapping roses off of my bush from the front yard and bringing them in to give them to me. It's so sweet about it, just like his dad.

  5. Aww. What a story. So sweet. Your husband is a keeper! lol I dont really have a good romance story to tell. But growing up, my mom always bought us kids a box of chocolate a piece and a flower, no matter what holiday or because sometimes, she just felt like it. :) She didnt want us kids to feel left out. My mom is a jewel. She always knew how to make us kids feel special.

    1. He really is. I'm sad that you don't have a story to tell. :( Be sure to treat yourself with something special every once in a while, even if you have to do it by yourself. Everyone deserves a little pampering from time to time.

    2. It's okay! Sometimes I think that it doesn't matter that I don't have anyone to share my life with, at other times it's hard not having that.

And thank you for the suggestion!

  7. This is just a silly thing, a friend and I were online at the same time cruzing the xat chats. We jumped in this room, which was an anime room. They were doing movement drills or something. For example, jumps into air, spins a full circle, lands, crouching low. There was more talk like that. Oh my gosh, we laughed forever about that. And in our own chat room, we would repeat that stuff in our own chat for a long time. It was so priceless.

    1. I love it!

It's amazingly awesome how friends wind up with these inside jokes. My best friend/adopted sister, my cousin and I had this thing about "books" when we were younger. We used the term "books" when we started talking about guys and their *ahem* because we were the oldest of 8-12 kids at my grandma's in the afternoon. (Little kids overhear everything and tattle!) We still giggle and blush when we use the word "books!"
